The Agnew family arrived at Hendersyde in the summer of 1997 when Charlotte, our eldest, was nine, Georgina six and Alexandra four.
Much has happened over the past twenty five years! The house and grounds were in a poor state of repair but as the children all arrived with their ponies, there was an incentive to use the park and create a cross country course.
We began with small hunter trial courses which then developed into Pony Club Area Trials, followed by fifteen years of running a British Eventing Event. This included the introduction of the Scottish Championships for BE levels 90 and 100 followed by the addition of the Scottish Novice Championship a few years later.
One of the most important elements of the horse trials has been our ability to raise money for local charities; we are delighted to say that we have raised £64,000 over the years for charities ranging from the MRI Scanner for the BGH, The Margaret Kerr Unit, The Borders’ Children’s Charity, The Murray House Appeal for the new dementia unit in Kelso, Doddie Weir, and the George Crawford Legacy Trust.
Our unaffiliated 3DE in 2019 was an extremely happy weekend where we were fortunate to host the Senior Home International for the Pony Club Tetrathlon, alongside our 3DE and 1DE classes. We now feel that this is a good time to move on to offer more training opportunities throughout the year at Hendersyde, alongside one competition in the Autumn to help the Berwickshire and a local charity.
Thank you all so much for your support over many years, and we hope that we shall continue to see everyone at our training with experienced accredited coaches throughout the years ahead.
